Black Excellence – Aria Evans

February is Black History Month. To honour Black excellence in the dance community, we’re spreading the word about some amazing artists and their upcoming events and creations. Read all about Aria Evans, a long time Kaeja collaborator.

Aria, who is mixed race with Black Scotian ancestry, will be presenting a new solo work in June 2023 called Dead Ends as part of Precarious happening at The Registry Theatre in Kitchener, commissioned by Artist-Producer Tara Butler.

  • Two images of Aria Evans, an early 30's mixed race and gender non-conforming person with light brown skin, long dark wavy hair and brown eyes. In the image on the left, Aria reaches one arm straight up into the air and looks up. They are on their knees and Ethan Kim, a mid-20s Korean male kneeling next to them, reaches up to grab Aria’s arm. In the image on the right Aria smiles softly at the camera wearing a pink and green collared shirt with their hair down. Black text reads: Aria Evans www.politicalmovement.ca

Aria recently performed in the world premiere of Allen’s I am the Child of…  as PART OF TORQUE Contemporary Dance Series 2022. They performed in this work live as well as appearing in augmented reality!

Additionally, you can see their Intimacy work in practice for Richard II at the Stratford Festival this season (performances May–September) and in Armadillos at Factory Theatre (performances in May and June)
