Karen’s Happenings: May 2022

Dancing with the Universe was a beautiful experience to perform. Under the leadership of Vivian Chong and Kathleen Rea, Co-Motion at Harbourfront presented the work April 23/24. Playing the character of death was an emotionally rich experience, with the opportunity to tune its essence daily, to serve and reveal Vivian’s heartwrenching story. Here are some clips from the production:

Heading into rehearsals this month for Allen’s I am the Child of… and Michael Caldwell’s TwoX30 feeds my dancing spirit and connection to artists on the ground, dancing.

I’m very excited this spring to be moving into collaboration with Roshanak Jaberi and Jaberi Dance Theatre, for Slipping. Through our common thread of landscapes as connective tissue between physical and psychological worlds, we are taking a 2 week deep dive into the creation process with artists Irma Villafuerte, Nickeshia Garrick, Victoria Mata, Mairéad Filgate, Olya Glotka, Shannon Litzenberger. A huge thank you to the Canada Council Digital NOW for the support towards this filmmaking experiment.

It was really wonderful to teach Contact Dance workshops for the 1st and 2nd year dancers at the School of Toronto Dance Theatre and to reconnect with Kin Nguien as her dramaturg on Kin’s newest project for PROSPECTS / Aeris Körper.
